DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom Eau de Parfum was launched in 2008, created by Loc Dong of IFF — first appearance in the session. Fresh Blossom is the spring floral extension of the Be Delicious franchise, launched four years after the original Be Delicious EDP (2004) — one of the most commercially successful fragrance launches of the mid-2000s, whose distinctive green apple-shaped bottle became one of the most recognisable fragrance flacons of the decade. DKNY — Donna Karan New York, the diffusion label launched by the Donna Karan company in 1989 as a younger, more accessible counterpart to the main Donna Karan line — built its fragrance identity around the Be Delicious franchise from 2004, establishing a specifically New York-coded, fresh-fruity-floral aesthetic that positioned the franchise around the imagery of Central Park, spring apple blossoms and the clean, vibrant energy of the city in warm weather. Fresh Blossom extends that Central Park imagery from the apple orchard of the original into the spring blossom season — a composition centred on the floral and fruity materials of early spring rather than the ripe, green-apple freshness of the original. The seven-material pyramid is among the most precisely seasonal in the session — every material reinforces the spring-morning register, from the bright citrus-fruit top through the white-floral heart to the clean skin-musk base.

The opening of Grapefruit, Cassis and Apricot is the most complex and most materially diverse fruity top in the DKNY range and one of the more compositionally interesting top tiers in the session. Grapefruit returning from its numerous top-note appearances in the session — here in its most spring-specific context, the sharp, slightly bitter citrus brightness contrasting with the other two top materials. Cassis — Ribes nigrum, Blackcurrant bud absolute or synthetic reconstruction, first named appearance in the session — one of the most distinctive and most immediately recognisable materials in fine fragrance; its characteristic intensely fruity, slightly catty, slightly green-fruity quality derives from the presence of sulfur compounds (principally 4-mercapto-4-methyl-2-pentanone), which give blackcurrant its characteristic slightly animalic, slightly catty edge that is simultaneously one of the most polarising and most addictive fruity materials in perfumery; in small quantities, as used here, Cassis creates a complex, slightly unexpected depth beneath what would otherwise be a straightforwardly bright citrus-fruit opening. Apricot — first named appearance in the session as a top note — a warm, slightly jammy, soft stone-fruit accord (constructed from lactone compounds, principally gamma-decalactone and related materials that evoke the characteristic creamy, slightly peachy-apricot quality of the fruit); the warmest and creamiest of the three top materials, its softness contrasting with Grapefruit’s brightness and Cassis’s complexity to create a top tier that moves across a wide tonal range within a single opening. The heart of Jasmine and Muguet is the most quintessentially spring-floral heart in the session. Jasmine returning in its familiar sweet-floral heart role; Muguet — Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis, Asparagaceae family), first named in the session as Muguet rather than as a generic lily — one of the most beloved spring flowers in European perfumery tradition (the French tradition of giving Muguet on May 1st — Le Premier Mai — is one of the oldest fragrance associations in Western culture); Muguet cannot be effectively extracted from the flower through steam distillation or solvent extraction in quantities sufficient for fine fragrance use, and Muguet in perfumery is therefore always a synthetic accord, constructed from materials including Hydroxycitronellal, Lilial (now IFRA-restricted), Lyral (now IFRA-restricted) and their modern replacements; the characteristic clean, green, watery, slightly sweet, intensely floral quality of Muguet is the most specifically spring-coded and the most unambiguously seasonal floral material in the session. The base of Blonde Woods and Smooth Skin Accord is the cleanest and most minimal base in the DKNY feminine range — two materials, both in the warm-clean-modern register, providing longevity without adding any oriental weight or complexity that would contradict the composition’s spring-fresh character.

How to Wear

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, décolletage. Two to three sprays; Fresh Blossom has light to moderate projection with a clean, skin-close drydown from the Smooth Skin Accord. The Grapefruit, Cassis and Apricot opening is immediately bright and distinctively fruity; the Jasmine and Muguet heart arrives within ten minutes as the most specifically spring-floral phase. The Blonde Woods and Smooth Skin Accord base lasts six to eight hours on skin. The 30ml is ideal for seasonal use; the 100ml the best value for a spring daily wear.
