YSL Libre Eau de Toilette 90ml

Libre — French for ‘free’ — is the fragrance that has come to define YSL’s contemporary women’s identity: fearless, androgynous, and built around a tension between the traditionally feminine and the traditionally masculine. That tension is expressed directly in the composition: Moroccan Orange Blossom and Jasmine Sambac at the heart are among the most richly feminine florals in perfumery, warm, heady and sensual; while French Lavender, running from the top notes through to the base character, is a note historically rooted in men’s aromatic perfumery — fougeres and barbershop tonics — repurposed here as a bold, couture statement. The combination shouldn’t work as elegantly as it does; that it does is the achievement of Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm, the same duo who created Carolina Herrera 212 VIP Black earlier in the same year.

The Eau de Toilette version, at 90ml, is lighter and more airy than the Libre Eau de Parfum — the orange blossom and jasmine heart is present but with less density and projection, making the EDT the more wearable everyday option and the EDP the richer evening choice. The opening of Tangerine, Neroli and Lavender is immediately distinctive — brighter and more citrus-forward than the EDP — before the Moroccan Orange Blossom and Jasmine Sambac heart develops. White Musks and Vanilla Extract in the base keep the drydown clean, soft and skin-close. The iconic YSL tuxedo-inspired bottle — with its V-cut glass, gold-tone logo hardware and black lacquered cap — is one of the most recognisable flacon designs in contemporary women’s fragrance, and a natural gift choice for any occasion.

How to Apply

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, décolletage. The tangerine and lavender opening settles quickly into the orange blossom and jasmine heart — the white musk and vanilla base develops softly for six to eight hours of wear. Two to three sprays for daytime; three to four for evening presence.
