YSL has two very different approaches to its men’s fragrance range. Black Opium and Libre are bold and assertive — fragrances that announce their presence. YSL MYSLF, launched in 2022, takes the opposite approach. Built around Orange Blossom Absolute — a high-quality extraction that captures the full, heady, honeyed character of orange blossom rather than its lighter neroli facet — MYSLF is a skin-close, luminous and modern woody floral that wears with a softness and intimacy that the bigger YSL fragrances don’t attempt. The orange blossom here is the same warm, slightly creamy floral used in Libre, but in MYSLF it leads the composition rather than balancing against lavender, which gives it a gentler and more openly sensual character.

The opening of Bergamot, Grapefruit and Yuzu is bright, clean and citrus-fresh — the yuzu adds a slightly floral, Japanese citrus quality distinct from European grapefruit and bergamot. Salicylate in the heart is a smooth, slightly solar molecule that supports the orange blossom with a clean, skin-warm quality. The base of White Woods, Patchouli, Ambroxan and Musk is where MYSLF earns its longevity and skin-scent quality — Ambroxan is the molecule responsible for the warm, skin-like diffusion that makes a fragrance feel like it’s emanating from skin rather than sitting on top of it, and it’s what gives MYSLF its particular intimacy and staying power. Patchouli is light-handed, grounding rather than dominant. The sleek black bottle with the gold Cassandre logo is understated by YSL standards and considerably more suited to daily use than the more statement-making flacons in the range.

How to Apply

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, chest. MYSLF is a skin-close fragrance by design — three to four sprays gives good presence without being overwhelming. The ambroxan base ensures it remains detectable and attractive for ten hours or more on skin.
