Estée Lauder Beautiful was launched in 1985 and created as a personal vision of femininity and elegance by Evelyn Lauder — who described it as wanting every woman who wore it to feel like the most beautiful woman in the room. Tuberose here — as in Clinique Aromatics Elixir, where it sat in the heart — is creamy, heady and intensely floral, but in Beautiful it is balanced by the brightness of Mandarin and the sunny, slightly sharp greenness of Marigold into something more accessible and warm than austere. The heart of Orange Flower, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang and Lily of the Valley — four white and near-white florals in full bloom — is the densest and most specifically bridal floral heart in the collection: Orange Flower and Jasmine adding warmth and depth, Ylang-Ylang its deep tropical sweetness as it did in Aromatics Elixir, Lily of the Valley keeping the heart clean and fresh as it has across the session from D&G The One to Burberry London. The base of Sandalwood, Vetiver and Amber is warm, woody and clean — Vetiver adding the cool, rooty depth it brought to Alfred Sung EDT and Aromatics Elixir, the Sandalwood and Amber softening it into a warm, skin-close finish.

How to Apply

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, décolletage. The tuberose and rose opening is immediate and full; the orange flower and jasmine heart develops within fifteen minutes. The sandalwood, vetiver and amber base lasts six to eight hours on skin with a warm, softly luminous trail — moderate projection, ideal for daytime and occasion wear.
