Loewe is one of the oldest luxury houses in Spain — founded in Madrid in 1846 as a leather collective, formalised as a house under Enrique Loewe Roessberg in 1872, and holding the Spanish Royal Warrant since 1905. Its fragrance line is less internationally prominent than its leather goods, but Solo, launched in 2004, has been the house’s most consistent masculine fragrance performer. The concept is the transition moment of a sunset — not the bright heat of midday or the full darkness of night, but the specific atmospheric quality of dusk: warm, slightly suspended, carrying the residual heat of the day into the cooler register of evening. The translucent burnt amber bottle makes the reference explicit. The composition expresses this duality structurally: a top built on fresh tropical fruit and aromatic lavender, a heart of warm, dense spice, and a base of classical Oakmoss and Amber depth. The opening of Guava, Italian Mandarin, Bergamot and Lavender is the most immediately tropical and least conventionally masculine opening in the session. Guava — appearing for the first time in the session — is a tropical fruit note with a warm, slightly musky-sweet, faintly green character quite distinct from citrus or stone fruit; less tart than Pineapple, warmer than Apple, with a soft tropical richness that gives the Solo opening an immediately distinctive register. Italian Mandarin and Bergamot provide the citrus brightness that anchors the top alongside the Guava’s warmth; Lavender in the top — a classic aromatic masculinity signal since the fougère tradition of the 19th century — transitions the composition from the fresh fruity opening toward the spiced heart. The heart of Cumin, Nutmeg, Cinnamon and Pink Pepper is the densest and warmest spice cluster in the session. Cumin — appearing for the first time — is one of the most challenging and compositionally polarising spice notes in perfumery; beyond its familiar culinary warmth it has a slightly sweaty, skin-like quality in fragrance use that gives compositions genuine body and presence rather than merely abstract spiciness. Alongside Nutmeg — also first appearance, warm and slightly medicinal, dry and woody — and Cinnamon returning from Boucheron EDT, with Pink Pepper returning from Replica Under the Stars and Cool Water Woman, the heart is simultaneously the warmest and most complex spice accord in the collection. The base of Musk, Amber, Oakmoss and Woody Notes grounds the composition with classical chypre depth — Oakmoss, the lichen-derived material that defined the chypre and fougère families for most of the 20th century before IFRA restrictions significantly reduced its permitted concentration, giving the drydown a cool, slightly earthy, forest-floor quality alongside the Amber’s resinous warmth; together they give Solo a base of genuine complexity and tenacity.

How to Wear

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, chest. The Guava and Lavender opening is immediate and distinctive; the full spice heart arrives within fifteen minutes and is the dominant impression for the first two to three hours. Two sprays is sufficient — the Cumin-Cinnamon-Nutmeg cluster has good natural projection. The Oakmoss and Amber base lasts six to eight hours on skin with a warm, earthy trail.
