Loewe 7 Eau de Toilette was launched in 2010, created by Nathalie Lorson — appearing here for her third time in the session, having also created Issey Miyake Pour Homme Intense (2007) and co-created Paco Rabanne Invictus (2013). The composition is classified as a woody floral musk — an unusual category for a mainstream masculine, and the specific material choices within it make Loewe 7 one of the more compositionally distinctive masculines in the collection. The name references seven core materials in the original creative concept, though the full note pyramid across all three tiers lists nine materials; the “7” is a conceptual reference to the composition’s tightly curated, precise material selection rather than a literal count of every listed note. Loewe — founded in Madrid in 1846, making it one of the oldest luxury fashion houses in the session, older than Burberry (1856), Versace (1978) and Calvin Klein (1968) — joined LVMH in 1996 and has been under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson since 2013, whose tenure has dramatically elevated the house’s cultural profile across fashion and craft. The fragrance line sits quietly within Loewe’s portfolio relative to the house’s leather goods and ready-to-wear, which makes Loewe 7 and its flanker Loewe 7 Cobalt EDP, alongside Loewe Solo EDT, somewhat underappreciated presences in a fragrance collection dominated by more familiar masculine brands.
The opening of Pepper and Apple is the most unusual top-note pairing in the masculine collection. Pepper returning — here without the ‘Black’ or ‘Pink’ qualifier, suggesting a broader or less specified Pepper material than the more precisely named variants encountered elsewhere in the session. Apple — first appearance in the session as a standalone fruit top material — in perfumery is typically a synthetic accord with a clean, slightly tart, fresh fruity character, distinct from the warm tropical fruits (Mango, Passion Fruit, Glazed Chestnut) and the citrus materials; Apple gives a clean, slightly cool, fresh-fruit quality that is simultaneously familiar and unusual as a masculine top note, particularly paired with Pepper rather than with the Bergamot and Lemon combinations of more conventional masculine openings. Together Pepper and Apple create a clean, slightly sharp, faintly spiced fresh opening that transitions rapidly into the most unexpectedly refined heart in the masculine collection. The heart of Incense, Neroli, Rose and Lily-of-the-Valley is the defining tier of the composition and the element that makes Loewe 7 genuinely distinctive in the masculine section. Incense returning, here in its most refined context — not the dark, smoky Black Incense of Pour Homme Intense but a cleaner, slightly more transparent incense quality that forms the heart’s structural backbone. Neroli returning in its luminous, clean, slightly honeyed character. Rose returning in a masculine heart context — encountered before in Boss Bottled Night’s heart, here in a more refined, less spiced context. Lily-of-the-Valley — Convallaria majalis, first appearance in the session and one of the most unexpected materials in any masculine composition in the collection — is in perfumery almost invariably a synthetic accord (the actual flower cannot be extracted at commercially viable quality), primarily constructed using Hydroxycitronellal, Lilial and related materials, giving a clean, green, slightly dewy, fresh floral character that is among the most immediately recognisable in all of perfumery. Its presence here in a masculine heart alongside Incense and Rose is the most genuinely surprising and refined material choice in the masculine section: the combination gives the heart of Loewe 7 a slightly androgynous, luminously floral quality that is unlike any other masculine heart in the collection. The base of Cedar, Vetiver and Musk provides the clean, grounded woody finish. Cedar in its straightforward woody role; Vetiver returning with its earthy, rooty, smoky-dry depth; Musk the skin-close, clean longevity.
How to Wear
Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, chest. Two sprays; Loewe 7 has moderate projection with excellent longevity from the Cedar and Vetiver base. The Pepper and Apple opening is immediate and clean; the Incense, Rose and Lily-of-the-Valley heart arrives within fifteen minutes in its most distinctive form. The Cedar and Vetiver base lasts seven to nine hours on skin — this is distinctly a cooler-season, evening and professional fragrance; for the darker, more intense Loewe masculine, see Loewe 7 Cobalt EDP.
