Versace Man Eau Fraîche was launched in 2006, created by Alberto Morillas — appearing here for his second product in the session, having also created Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò EDT in 1996. The connection is not incidental: Eau Fraîche is in structural terms a direct stylistic sibling of Acqua di Giò, built on the same aromatic aquatic masculine template — citrus and exotic fruit top, herbal aromatic heart, clean woody base — but with a distinctly Versace character in the choice of materials: where Acqua di Giò uses Neroli, Rosemary and the Calone-driven Aquatic Notes of its 1996 context, Eau Fraîche uses Carambola, Clary Sage, Tarragon and Sycamore Wood, giving it a more exotic and herbal freshness rather than the sea-spray aquatic of the earlier composition. The house of Versace — founded in Milan in 1978 by Gianni Versace, now led by Donatella Versace — brings its characteristic Mediterranean extravagance and Medusa iconography to the fragrance line; Eau Fraîche is Versace’s most understated masculine, deliberately clean and accessible relative to the boldness of Eros EDT and its extensions. The opening of White Lemon, Bergamot and Carambola is one of the most distinctively composed citrus-exotic openings in the masculine collection. White Lemon — a cleaner, slightly less acidic, more purely citrus-bright expression of Lemon derived from the inner rind, first appearance in this form — gives the opening an immediately fresh, sharp, clean quality without the more assertive acidity of standard Lemon materials. Bergamot returning in its familiar bright-citrus role. Carambola — Averrhoa carambola, the star fruit, a tropical fruit from Southeast Asia, first appearance in the session — contributes a clean, slightly watery, exotic freshness that combines elements of grape, citrus and apple in a single material with a refreshing, mildly acidic character; it is what gives the Eau Fraîche opening its distinctive character and differentiation from the standard Bergamot-Lemon citrus combinations of the masculine collection. The heart of Clary Sage, Tarragon and Cedar Leaves is the most distinctively herbal heart in the Versace masculine range. Clary Sage — Salvia sclarea, the specific variety distinguished from common Sage (Salvia officinalis) — has a lighter, more herbal, slightly lavender-adjacent, faintly floral quality compared to the more medicinal, darker character of common Sage; its presence gives the heart a clean, aromatic, slightly sweet herbal quality that prevents the composition from reading as purely citrusy. Tarragon — Artemisia dracunculus, from the same Artemisia genus as the Wormwood/Mugwort encountered in Alfred Sung Homme but with an entirely different character, first appearance in this form — has a sweet, anise-like, slightly fresh herbal quality; its presence in the Eau Fraîche heart alongside Clary Sage creates the composition’s characteristic clean-herbal aromatic depth. Cedar Leaves providing the green, woody, aromatic quality — lighter and more naturalistic than Cedarwood itself. The base of Sycamore Wood, Amber and Musk is the cleanest and most transparent base in the Versace masculine range. Sycamore Wood — Acer pseudoplatanus, first appearance in the session — has a clean, slightly milky, fresh, greenish woody character quite distinct from the warmer, drier Cedar or the creamy Sandalwood; it gives the base a light, naturalistic woody warmth without the density of heavier base woods, which is why the drydown of Eau Fraîche remains so clean and approachable from first spray to final hour. Amber providing subtle warmth; Musk the skin-close, clean finish.

How to Wear

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, chest. Two to three sprays; Eau Fraîche has light to moderate projection, appropriate for office, casual daytime and warm-weather wear. The White Lemon and Carambola opening is immediate and clean; the Clary Sage and Tarragon heart arrives within ten minutes. The Sycamore Wood and Amber base lasts four to six hours on skin — choose Eros EDT when greater projection and evening presence are needed.
