Gucci Bamboo Eau de Parfum

Gucci Bamboo was launched in 2015 and occupies a distinct position within the Gucci feminine range — warmer and woodier than the white floral density of Bloom EDP, more structured and less chypre-driven than Rush EDT, with a woody floral character that gives it the broadest seasonal and occasion range of the three. The bamboo of its name refers not to a fragrance note — bamboo does not appear in the pyramid — but to the aesthetic and design language of the bottle, which incorporates a bamboo-shaped element referencing one of Gucci’s most iconic accessories: the bamboo-handled bag, introduced in 1947 and still in production today, which became one of the defining objects of Italian luxury fashion in the 20th century. The composition is built on two ingredients given specific botanical and geographical identity — Casablanca Lily and Tahitian Vanilla — a level of provenance detail that connects Bamboo to the geo-sourced ingredient philosophy of J’adore and Miss Dior within the collection.

The opening is a single note: Italian Bergamot, the same Calabrian citrus that anchors the top of Good Girl Blush — clean, aromatic, slightly citrusy, providing a fresh and uncluttered introduction that gives the heart complete space to arrive without competition. The heart of Casablanca Lily, Ylang-Ylang and Orange Blossom is the most opulent white floral heart in the collection after Bloom. Casablanca Lily — Lilium orientalis ‘Casa Blanca’ — appears for the first and only time in the session; one of the largest and most heavily scented of all lily varieties, with an intensely sweet, creamy, almost narcotic white floral character considerably richer than either Lily of the Valley or standard Lily note. Its richness is comparable to Tuberose — which appeared in Aromatics Elixir, Beautiful, Boucheron EDT, Fire & Ice and Bloom EDP — but with a somewhat cleaner, less animalic quality. Ylang-Ylang returns for its seventh appearance in the session, here alongside Orange Blossom — the full, richer blossom version of the bitter orange tree, distinct from the lighter, more delicate Neroli that appeared in Bloom’s opening. The base of Amber, Sandalwood and Tahitian Vanilla gives Bamboo its defining character and the quality that separates it from a purely fresh floral. Tahitian Vanilla — Vanilla tahitensis — is a different species from the Bourbon or Madagascar Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) that appears in most vanilla-scented fragrances: less straightforwardly sweet, more complex, with floral, slightly fruity and faintly anise-tinged facets that give it a softer, more nuanced warmth than conventional vanilla. Alongside Sandalwood’s creamy, woody depth and Amber’s warm, slightly resinous breadth, it gives Bamboo a base of considerable warmth and longevity without the sweetness that would push it into gourmand territory.

How to Apply

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, décolletage. The single Bergamot opening is clean and brief — the Casablanca Lily heart arrives within ten minutes and develops steadily for the first hour. Two sprays is generally sufficient; the Amber and Sandalwood base has good tenacity and lasts seven to nine hours on skin with a warm, woody, slightly creamy trail.
