Gucci Bloom Eau de Parfum

Gucci Bloom was launched in 2017, created by Alberto Morillas — one of the most prolific and decorated perfumers in the history of contemporary fragrance, responsible for CK One, Acqua di Giò, Pleasures by Estée Lauder, Marc Jacobs Daisy, and dozens of others spanning five decades. His involvement in Bloom is the single most important credential this composition carries, and explains why it succeeds where so many dense white florals fail: Morillas builds compositions of exceptional technical precision, and Bloom’s particular achievement is its richness without heaviness — a dense, creamy white floral that wears with a smooth, silky lightness entirely at odds with the density of its ingredients. The composition belongs to the same white floral family as Givenchy Amarige and Estée Lauder Beautiful, but where those are warm and oriental in their base register, Bloom is cleaner, woodier and more contemporary — its Sandalwood and Orris base giving it a cooler, more skin-close finish. The opening of Neroli Accord, Lemon Sfumatrice Essence, Mandarin Essence and Bergamot Essence is citrus-forward and immediately luminous. Lemon Sfumatrice refers to a specific Italian cold-press extraction technique — ‘sfumatrice’ from the Italian for ‘to evaporate gradually’ — that preserves the most volatile aromatic molecules that conventional pressing loses, giving the lemon a fuller, more complete, brighter character than standard lemon essence. Neroli — the blossom of the bitter orange tree, lighter and more delicate than Orange Blossom from the same plant — adds a softly floral, slightly honeyed quality to the citrus opening. The heart is defined by its most unusual component: Rangoon Creeper — Quisqualis indica, a tropical climbing plant native to Southeast Asia — making its first and only appearance in the session. Rangoon Creeper is one of the most distinctive notes in contemporary mainstream perfumery precisely because of its non-linear, shifting character: sweet and slightly candy-like in its initial impression, moving toward almond and coconut as it develops, with a warm, slightly musky depth at its base. Its pairing here with Tuberose — appearing for the fifth time in the session, returning from Aromatics Elixir, Beautiful, Fire & Ice and Boucheron EDT — and Jasmine Buds accord and Orange Blossom creates the ‘Bloom accord’ that is the house’s signature floral: dense, creamy, multi-layered, with more complexity than any single white floral note could achieve. The base of Sandalwood, Sun-Drenched Wood, Orris Concrete, Benzoin and Musks introduces two materials new to the session. Orris Concrete is Orris in its most raw, unrefined form — closer to the iris rhizome itself than the highly processed Orris Butter that gives conventional iris notes their powdery elegance; it has a more earthy, slightly fatty, rooty character, warmer and less powdery than the refined versions used in Tiffany Rose Gold or Boucheron EDT. Benzoin — a resinous, balsamic material derived from the Styrax tree — is warm, slightly sweet and vanilla-adjacent but with a richer, more complex resinous depth than synthetic Vanilla; it contributes to the base’s smooth, skin-like warmth.

How to Apply

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, décolletage. Bloom EDP has good projection and excellent longevity — two sprays is generally sufficient. The citrus opening settles within ten to fifteen minutes into the full Rangoon Creeper and Tuberose heart; allow thirty minutes for the Orris Concrete and Benzoin base to develop fully. The musk and sandalwood drydown lasts eight hours or more on skin.
